What is Salesforce Headless 360?
Salesforce's announcement that the platform is now operated by agents, not humans clicking through a UI — one option for the system-of-record layer in the agentic enterprise.
Definition
Salesforce Headless 360 is Salesforce’s platform announcement that rebuilds Salesforce for AI agents instead of humans, making every capability accessible as an API, an MCP (Model Context Protocol) tool, or a CLI command. Co-founder Parker Harris framed it as direction: "Why should you ever log into Salesforce again? Maybe you never will." Green Irony’s default architecture for the agentic enterprise runs orchestration, then context, then the integration fabric, then the system of record — and Headless 360 is what makes Salesforce a stronger option at that fourth, system-of-record layer. It doesn’t change how the first three layers get built.
Why it matters
For 25 years, using Salesforce meant clicking through Classic or Lightning UIs, manually updating cases, navigating the platform as a human. In the agentic enterprise, agents do that work — and they don't go to a browser. They call APIs, invoke MCP tools, and run CLI commands. Headless 360 is Salesforce conceding that the UI layer is no longer the primary operator surface; the data and workflow layer underneath is now exposed natively for agents.
This is one of the most consequential platform shifts since Lightning replaced Classic, and every enterprise running on Salesforce should understand it. But it's a change at one layer of a larger stack — not a redefinition of the whole stack.
Where Headless 360 fits in the agentic enterprise stack
Green Irony's default architecture for the agentic enterprise has four layers, in order: orchestration (an agent such as Claude that reasons and decides what to do), context (the grounding layer — compiled, validated business context that keeps every agent on the right slice of the business), the integration fabric (the governed layer that connects agents to systems with auth, logging, and reliability intact), and the system of record (where the transactional data actually lives).
Salesforce is one option for that system-of-record layer — a strong one, and often the right one for Salesforce-native businesses. Headless 360 makes that option better: every Salesforce capability becomes directly callable by an agent, which raises the ceiling on what the system-of-record layer can do. It doesn't move Salesforce up into the orchestration, context, or integration-fabric layers, and it doesn't require rebuilding those layers around Salesforce's own model.
Businesses running on NetSuite, Workday, a custom platform, or a mix of systems use the same four-layer architecture — they just plug a different system, or several, into that fourth layer. The stack above it doesn't change.

What it means for MuleSoft customers

Salesforce's Headless 360 is validation that this shift is real; MuleSoft Agent Fabric (/glossary/agent-fabric/) is the integration-fabric layer that makes it safe when agents also need to reach systems outside Salesforce.
